 Goth jewelry can round out a goth fans attire quite nicely. Some of the rings and chains that are designed to be worn on practically every part of the body are pretty darn amazing. Many goth fans find themselves wearing their piercing's by day and dressing in dark clothes because they have to conform for their job, and then at night they wear their full goth wardrobe to express their like for the gothic scene.
The Gothic style started in the UK sometime in the 1980s, post punk rock. However, as other subcultures died, Goth held on steadfast and continues to burgeon today. As well as being dismal and dreary, the Goth darkness theme emphasizes a certain ideology not found in other fashion statements—a need to be independent of social norms and personify the self through art and acceptance. One way that such a subculture stays alive and well is through the attire they wear. One example of Goth culture is Goth Jewelry. This representation of the Goth subculture, however, is today more than simple trinkets. Goth Jewelry has come a long way since its design of bygone days.
As spoken of early, most Goth garb centers on the color black. Black, from Dracula to Frankenstein to Batman, insinuates a color of more than death. As understood from a Goth perspective, black is a way to communicate the choice to step out of societal norms and consumerism desires to attain a higher level—whether it is art, self-understanding or something altogether more philosophical. Goth jewelry, then, hinges on the darker colors, such as black, but also uses silvery colors, gunmetal looks and contrasts in purple, violet or red.
Some of the most popular types of Goth jewelry are the choker. Though women notoriously use this piece of jewelry, men do often wear certain types of chokers too. Most commonly, Goth chokers can include crystals, pewter and silver chains. It is not uncommon to see such designs in the shapes of skulls, spiders, spider webs, bats and gargoyles. Often chokers with such designs are worn for effect, but sometimes they are worn for power, energy harnessing, focus and protection. Not all Goths, however, believe in such capabilities.
