Goth Stockings
The Goth culture (often called Goth or Gothic subculture) relies heavily on the beliefs of a darker side of life—almost a morbid fascination with death, dying and the façade of maintaining a look of loss of life. The Goth culture has been personifying this art, if you will, for nearly two decades and it hasn’t been until recently that the fashion has hit certain vogue standards. More and more, it is not hard to find someone wearing Gothic jewelry, Gothic shoes or other Goth attire. The Goth look has even permeated to our undergarments, from lingerie to boxers, bras and even stockings. The latter, then, has some interesting things and may very well be the object that needs the most attention in Goth costume.
Gothic stockings, sometimes referred to as Goth socks, anklets, tights or knee-highs has come a long way in both style and versatility. Gothic stockings for the women generally revolve around a sexier appeal than men’s stockings. Additionally, women’s Gothic stockings can include a lot of untamed colors. If you go to the racks of any Goth-esque store, you’ll find zebra striped stockings, lace and leather stockings and even white or fishnet stockings, including skulls, ribbons and bows. The colors of women’s gothic stockings may very well include red, pink, maroon, black, white and variations therein. They may be anklets, cuffed or up to or past the knees. Additionally, they can fasten with Velcro, bows, button, fastenings or ties. Generally, the higher the Gothic stocking, the shorter the woman's skirt or dress. The look corroborates Goth tenets in that it is both sexy, unique and either dominating or submissive.

Gothic stockings for men tend to be less exuberant and more melodramatic. The colors are almost always dark and more morbid than the woman counterpart. This is not intended to be as much sexists as it is marketable. Though men can and do wear fishnet Gothic stockings, most Goth men choose to wear something a bit more mid level and low. Men’s Gothic stockings can be anklets or the type of sock that peaks up and out of the boot. The stocking tends to be rougher and include designs, sometimes skulls colored white on a black weaved sock, for instance. The Goth men’s sock, moreover, relies heavily on the concepts of what it is to be Goth, both different, deadened to societies consumerism ways all the while promoting individualism through art.
Gothic stockings for both genders, like with more mainstream fashion, runs into problems when the wearer doesn’t form their Goth fashion around new or novel ideas. Though it is considered necessary to look similar, it is really creative and sometimes necessary when a Goth person designs and makes their own Goth stockings to fit the outfit they want to wear. This type of expression is often more appreciated than simply wearing Goth for Goth sake. When you take the time to create your own masterpiece, the community on a whole is not only motivated by you but tend to respect your visions more. Goth is about solitary style that fits a molded arrangement. Creating Goth stockings that do all these will be the most beneficial to the Goth movement in general. |
